Additionally, our company is Large-Loss Certified, meaning we have the staff, resources, and equipment to handle any size disaster. Whether you have 500 or 500,000 sq. feet, rest assured, we’ve got you covered and are here to help with an emergency response.

Can They Be Reached?

When disaster strikes your business, time is not on your side. You need to be assured that you have someone that you can contact at any given day or time.

That’s why we are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We have a live staff ready to help no matter the time of day or holiday. We’re the ones to depend on and we’ll work hard so that you don’t have to.

The professionals with SERVPRO of Columbia and Greene Counties are not only your number 1 resource for residential damage mitigation, but we can also assist you with your business or commercial buildings as well. There are three levels of loss when it comes to commercial properties that we take into consideration when assessing the damage.

Level 1: A Level 1 commercial loss is the smallest of affected spaces, whether that be an entire building affected that is about 15,000 square feet or less or a small portion of a much larger overall structure. Some examples of this size of loss are stand-alone retail stores, restaurants, garages, storage facilities, or small churches.

Level 2: A Level 2 commercial loss is a midsize business building in the range of 15,000 to about 60,000 square feet of affected space. These types of buildings are usually multiple levels or have spaces that are divided such as an apartment building or multi-family home, a small shopping center, or midsized facilities such as warehouses.

Level 3: A Level 3 commercial loss is the largest loss involving more than 60,000 square feet of affected space. This could also be considered for a property with multiple buildings that experienced damage or one large facility. Some examples of this kind of level would be large churches, schools, hospitals, manufacturing buildings, or shopping centers.

Common Causes of Commercial Water Damage

call SERVPRO of Columbia and Greene Counties at (518) 943 - 5005

Your business is at its best when it is fully operational! Water damage can put your employees and customers at risk and can force you to shut down normal operations. When not handled quickly, efficiently, and professionally, this could lead your business to close for extended periods of time. One way to help your business stay ahead of water damage is identifying some common causes and addressing them, before disaster hits.

  • Improperly sealed exterior windows, doors, garages, etc…
    • When exterior exits to a building are not properly sealed, water can find its way in. Even in small amounts, water left unchecked can lead to mold growth and damage to wood or drywall
  • HVAC
    • Heating and cooling your business is essential to running a successful business day. But when HVAC systems are not properly maintained, ducts can clog or wear down. This could lead to leaks and water damage inside of the walls and ceiling.
  • Pipes
    • A broken pipe can lead to very serious water damage to any building. Deterioration, pressure changes, and freezing temperatures can all lead to a broken pipe. In addition to the obvious mold issue of untreated water damage, plumbing issues can also lead to unsafe environments.

The Columbia and Greene County areas are seeing significantly low temperatures for the foreseeable future which can accelerate damage to HVAC systems, exterior windows, doors, and especially pipes. It is important to routinely check your commercial building to make sure your business isn’t affected by major water damage this winter. In the unfortunate event that disaster hits your business, give the professionals SERVPRO of Columbia and Greene Counties at (518)943-5005 any time, 24/7 to help you get your business back up and running… “Like it never even happened.”

Just a Bunch of Junk

11/29/2021 (Permalink)

SERVPRO of Columbia and Greene Counties was called to the Catskill Community Theater in Catskill, NY to assist in a major cleanup operation. The owner of the Catskill Community Theater had been renting storage space to a tenant, who left and abandoned all of its contents. Piles of paint cans, garbage, personal items, and more were left behind. Without the Pros at SERVPRO, this cleanup job would have taken someone days, if not weeks to complete! Our team got straight to work packing the salvageable contents into boxes and bins and moving it all to a storage facility across town. They then filled multiple dumpsters with the unsalvageable contents and miscellaneous garbage. Whether you need to clean up someone else’s overwhelming mess, or your own- call SERVPRO of Columbia and Greene Counties to assist! Our team can help divide, pack and/or trash the contents in any space, as well as deep clean the room once the items have been removed. Importance of Sump Pumps

5/13/2019 (Permalink)

The above picture shows a sump pump in a basement pit.

If your home is not equipped with a sump pump, it is a very good idea to install one to prevent water damage in your home or business.

A sump pump is placed in a pit made in the basement floor that serves as a spot for water to collect before collect on the floor. Once the water fill up in the pit, it starts to push up the float activator, similar to one in a toilet tank. This starts the pump and begins to suck the water out and push it through a pipe or hose and out away from the house. Most pumps are installed with a check valve in between the pipe and pump which keeps water from flowing back into the pit.

Installing and having a sump pump will help you in the long run and will also prevent mold and mildew in your basement. Keeping your basement dry is important to prevent the presence of mold and mildew which can cause a lot of other issues. Homes with working sump pumps tend to see an increase in resale value of the home. Make sure your sump pump is checked and maintained regularly to prevent malfunctions and flooding of your basement.

If you experience a flood in your basement, or have any questions about preventing water damage, please call SERVPRO of Columbia & Greene Counties at (518) 943-5005 today!
